Halloween 2012: Mickey & Minnie Mouse!

In previous years for Halloween I purchased pre-made costumes at the store-

A monkey in 2010...

Spongebob in 2011...

(Yup, that costume was made for a 6 year old, but the boy wanted to be Spongebob, so I made him Spongebob gosh darnet!)

This year, however, I really wanted to focus their costumes around something that I could crochet. I asked C what he wanted to be for Halloween, and his response was perfect- Mickey Mouse! How cute of an idea, they could be Mickey and Minnie!

They weren't much in a picture taking mood, which was a sad moment for me because I never did get one good one of them together. My OCD is still bothered by that.

Yup, that is my iPhone in his hand. Anything for a good picture, right mom-tographers?

I crocheted both of their hats and shoes, as well as the Mickey head on C's trick-or-treat bag in the first picture. I just purchased a $1 red tote from the craft section at Wal-Mart and hot glued the Mickey head on there (after crocheting it obviously).

You can purchase the Mickey hat in my store here (I can make the bottom red and add white buttons for his pants for those that like the hat, but don't plan to use it as a costume.), the Minnie hat here, and the entire Minnie set here. (More info on that Minnie skirt in tomorrow's post!) And don't forget, if you buy the set of Mickey and Minnie hats you get a 10% discount, just message me to set up a custom listing for you!

I'll leave you with this cutie.

Happy Wednesday!

Custom Order!

I showed you my new earwarmer headbands yesterday, but now I get to show you the custom order that started the earwarmer headbands! This customer goes to the University of Northern Iowa, which is her favorite school! While her roommates go to UNI with her (well, I assume they do, but if they don't then they sure travel a long way from the UNI campus all the way out to the Iowa and Iowa State campuses!), their preferences are the University of Iowa and Iowa State University. I thought it was such a fun idea to get to create headbands for each school all for the same order!

She loved the idea of having flowers on them (and so do I!), so I kept the colors going with the cute tiny buttons in the middle of the flowers! I love that they all match, can't you just imagine how cute they will look walking around with two of them getting beat up for wearing the wrong colors to UNI campus?! These are supposed to be Christmas gifts for the Iowa and Iowa State girls, but I hope that she'll post photos of them all modeling them together for me after Christmas, on my Facebook page!

I also added the earwarmer headbands to my Etsy shop, so you can check them out here! Remember, if you are looking to buy more than one then contact me first and I will either set you up a custom listing on Etsy or send you an invoice to your PayPal, I want to make sure that you get the 10% discount!

Introducing: Earwarmer Headbands!

Alright so I failed at blogging on Friday, sue me. Well, not really, but does it count as a valid excuse if I was busy at work all day and then went out for a date night with my favorite guy?

One of my customers contacted me about crocheting earwarmer headbands for the winter. I had never done so before, but I figured they seemed easy enough. I searched Google for a pattern I liked, and when I wasn't able to find one, I decided to make my own! These headbands are incredibly quick  to work up (they take about an hour start to finish), and are just too cute when they are done!

How gorgeous is my model, Rielle?

They can be crocheted in any color combo you can dream up, any ginormous head you need to fit and any embellishments you desire- for no added cost! My earwarmer headbands are a flat $15 each (shipping included, as always!), however, if you decide to purchase more than one you receive a 10% discount. The 10% discount can be used with any two different items, if you want to buy an earwarmer headband for yourself (come on, you deserve it!) and a hat for your child (you know you can't resist!), you still receive a 10% discount for buying more than one item from my shop.

These are a perfect Christmas gift or stocking stuffer! Order one in your best friend/girlfriend/boyfriend/child's school colors for a custom gift! I can even drop a hint to your hubby if you'd like ;)

Happy Monday!

Custom Order!

My 2.5 year old son has the cutest little girlfriend ever. Seriously. These kids are attached at the hip when they are together. Oh you want to see photos? Well, of course.

Yup, they were feeding each other cake. I know, it's the cutest thing you've ever seen. How does this even remotely relate to crochet, you're thinking? Just wait, I'm getting there.

Sweet M had a hot pink/zebra themed 2nd birthday party, and since I love to throw in a crocheted surprise for people's birthday gifts, I crocheted her a black and white striped hat with a hot pink accent. I only took one photo of it, which is of course on my broken laptop, so I snatched this photo from M's mom.

I made a three layer flower with a black button in the middle, so cute. Well, M's mom's friend (confused yet?) loved M's hat, and wanted one just like it, except with red accents for a boy.

Presenting- the boy version!

Awesome, right? I can't wait to see how well it is liked by M's mom's friend. I feel the urge to make a whole rainbow collection of these. Or maybe someone can just order them and get them photographed by an awesome custom photographer to share on my Facebook page/blog? Yea, that sounds like a great idea!

Happy Thursday!

For the love of buttons...

I made it again! Maybe I can actually make this a regular thing? How many posts in a row until I can stop mentioning that I am actually creating posts in a row? 3? Alright, I'll stop.

My new favorite thing is buttons. I love adding buttons to hats. My daughter's go-to fall beanie isn't very extravagant, but I think the button just really ups (Is that a word? Beyond the guys who deliver new yarn and lots of buttons to my front door?) the cute factor.

I sent a couple of similar hats to two of my photographers, Geno Photography and Liz Ann Marcus for some sweet pics. Carrie (over at Geno Photography) is still waiting for her newbie to arrive, so she sent me a product photo to hold me over until she fills my inbox with squishy newborn goodness.

I love it, and I can't wait to see what she does with it once she has a model to try it on.

If you follow my Facebook page then you probably saw the most adorable photo ever:

Ah, so cute right?! Well it must be your lucky day, because photographer Liz Ann Marcus (located in Spicer, Minnesota for you locals) sent me another photo of this sweet babe in one of my favorite hats.

Droolworthy, eh? If that doesn't make you want to have lots of sweet babies then I don't know what will!

Happy Wednesday!

Custom Order!

Two posts in a row! Do I get some kind of award for that? Worst blogger of the year award? I'll take it! Better than nothing, eh?

Another custom order I had recently was for a size 3-6 month bear hat. The customer loved the twin hats that I had made a couple of months ago (that the amazing Kenzi Photography ended up shooting!!), but wanted something just a wee bit different.

This hat was for a boy, so she didn't want the bows on, and while she loved the color combo of brown and tan, she wanted to switch it around and make brown the main color with tan accents.

I love how it turned out! It is absolutely adorable! I'm still hoping to see a photo pop up on my Facebook newsfeed of the sweet boy in it.

Happy Tuesday!

Custom Order!

I fail as a blogger.

It's true, I know, don't try to make me feel better. I have had quite a few custom orders lately though, so I just need to get some posts going (Maybe I'll write them now and post one each day? Oh, who am I kidding, I'm lucky to post once a month!) Do any of you follow blogs? I LOVE blog following, so it's pretty sad that I can't manage to get more posts out. I have thought about adding more "juice" to this blog; home decor, crochet tips/patterns, fitness, personal. Thoughts? Anyways, on to the subject of the day: custom order. Was that a good transition? No? I'll work on that.

I recently had a custom order for a couple of adult size hats; a minion and a giraffe. I completely forgot to photograph the giraffe hat before I mailed it (fail again!) so I'll just refresh your memory with this picture of my sweet babe taken when she was 4 days old by Geno Photography.

My customer ordered the exact same style, color, everything (except size of course). It looked just as cute in an adult size too! The other hat she ordered I was SO excited about. I love when someone contacts me with an idea that I have not done before. I get the chance to open up my creativity a bit and expand my work. (hint, hint: bring me new ideas!)

How incredibly adorable is this?! My favorite part? The button eyes. Awesome.

Now I am off to go prep some future posts, any guesses on when they will go live? January? Yea, probably.

Happy Monday!
